AWAKENING OF THE SENSES: a day in Paradise
THE BLUE DAWN
You watch two falcons sweep above the shrubs, lit by the first rays of the sun. They are teaching their children about life in Paradise. You listen to their unmistakable call and to the higher-pitched answers of their offspring. Just like you, they are breathing in all the smells and the spices of the Mediterranean.
A few wing beats away, rows of umbrella pines are silhouetted along the gentle coast. On the horizon is the island of Elba. A ship is calmly crossing the strait.
You prolong this magical moment on the terrace of the Poggio ai Santi restaurant, enjoying the authentic honey, jam, fruit, bread and buns from the generous and rich soil of Tuscany.
THE GOLDEN NOON
The silence of the hills rolling towards the sea is broken by the cicadas' song. The rustling of the leaves in the highest branches of ancient pines itself creates a pleasurable sense of coolness.
The high sun encourages you to sneak a foot into the water of the pool near which you have been daydreaming. A cat arrives, surprised about not being the only one to enjoy this special moment. A caress is exchanged for a moment's complicity.
A light, spiced meal with Poggio ai Santi's bread and olive oil completes this course of peace and farniente.

Slowly the blue gives way to pink, red and orange. The sun departs between the sky and the sea to bless other lands. The cicadas go quiet. Luxury Hotel Accommodation
Poggio ai Santi has suites (from 40 to 80 m2) and two bedrooms (35 and 45 m2). They are distributed over three buildings, all of them located inside the park: the main building, a “Podere†which dates back to the nineteenth century, a panoramic villa with breathtaking views, and a delightful outbuilding, a former stables located at the edge of the pine forest.
The suites are equipped with delightful bathrooms with shower, and some with a bathtub: a room in itself that harmoniously mixes space and luxurious materials.
Five of the suites offer a small kitchenette and most of them have their own private terrace. Poggio ai Santi reflects the loving care Francesca Vierucci, its owner, has taken in furnishing and decorating these apartments, making sure each and every detail was attended to with a perfect taste. No two room are alike.
The suites are equipped with delightful bathrooms with shower, and some with a bathtub: a room in itself that harmoniously mixes space and luxurious materials.

Located on the ground floor of the Podere of Poggio ai Santi, it will accommodate approx. 30 guests. “Il Sale†is an exclusive place, where the most delicious meals will be on offer in the best of Tuscan culinary tradition. While main emphasis lies on sea food, other dishes will also be presented here. A bar located on the terrace during the summer, and in a lounge with fireplace during the winter months, offers the ideal spot to end another day of well-being and relaxation before dinner. “Il Sale†offers simple and light snacks to eat.

HOW TO REACH POGGIO AI SANTI – MUCCHERIA

1) *** On the Highway A12, after PISA Airport’s exit, you reach LIVORNO exit: do not exit to LIVORNO. Follow the A12 Highway to “ROSIGNANO†till the “Toll Stationâ€, this is some 35 km more.
2) After the “Toll Stationâ€, you reach a highway (SS1 freeway) which is a freeway (no toll). Immediately after the toll, drive on the left to pass the freeway over the bridge, and follow GROSSETO, ROMA
3) Drive for ca. 35 km., do not exit at SAN VINCENZO NORD, follow up to GROSSETO, ROMA and SAN VINCENZO SUD†to the South (tunnel + gas station, ca 4 km) and exit the freeway at SAN VINCENZO SUD
4) Go right at the exit, 90 degrees. Follow San Vincenzo on the right for about 300 meters driving to the West. Do not enter the industrial area, which is the first on your right. Go on to the “STOP†signs (shipyard on your right and a new building with a yellow sign “noloserviziâ€. You’re arriving on the SS1 bis, Aurelia.
5) Go right at the “STOP†(90 degrees again) direction San Vincenzo (brown sign for Populonia), then drive some 450-500 meters on the SS1. At this stage, you are driving North again.
6) GO RIGHT (90 degrees again) at the roundabout when and follow the sign Poggio ai Santi. DO NOT DRIVE STRAIGHT ON TO SAN VINCENZO, where it is another road to San Carlo, which is the wrong one.
7) Go ahead to the East for 3'200 meters climbing to the hill (and pass under the Highway SS1 you just had left). Straight to “Il Conte’s Restaurant†(km 1.5), then keep climbing and winding to have “Il Cardinale†B&B (km 2.2). Then the road is not climbing any more and you see “Le Muratelle†on your right with a long low wall and olive trees on your left. After the signage “LE MURATELLEâ€, begins POGGIO AI SANTI’s land.
8) Proceed for 300 meters: on your right POGGIO AI SANTI, on your left, our growing olive trees. Then the road goes down for 100 meters and you have on your left the entrance for LA MUCCHERIA and on your right a U turn to the non paved road back to POGGIO AI SANTI For your GPS: Gate is at 43.05.40.53 N / 10.35.03.01 E
9) Drive to the gate and ring for information and welcome.

*** On Saturday in Summer, the highway tolls may be so busy to create 5 to 10 km queues. It happens usually between 10h00 and 18h00. The Traffic Radio 103.3 gives information, sometimes also in English. In this case, also the sea freeway SS1 through Livorno is jammed. We suggest as an alternative:
1. Exit the highway in COLLESALVETI (first exit after Livorno)
2. Take the freeway to FIRENZE only for 1.5 km ca
3. Exit in VICARELLO, COLLESAVETTI
4. At the roundabout at the exit, follow CECINA, GROSSETO on the SS 206
5. Follow the SS 206 ca 34 km, to CECINA: you join again with the SS1 near a restaurant “Il Malandrinoâ€, direction VADA
